Link to download html file rather than display it

>>>> Click Here to Download <<<<<<<

 · Apparently the team uses a vendor who creates these 'packages' and then has the team review the html file. No real way to have them change it. Similar concept we used in SharePoint when we uploaded training videos. Users clicked on the html file and all the content was tied to it. Layout below - must be able to open html.  · Store the pdf on Google drive and link to that: This is insecure (anyone with the link can access the file) and obviates the need for Canvas. Replace the pdf with a jpeg image. This degrades resolution and has poor accessibility (e.g., for vision impaired students) Use direct addressing instead of indirect addressing in the href.  · HTML etc. pages display nicely in chrome, but when I address a doc file in the web all I’m offered by chrome is a download, not an open with wird right away. Firefox is fine, however (about:preferences, settings, applications). Chrome, extensions, chrome apps, Docs won’t do. Fritz Jörn.

So here's a simple snippet for when you want to force a download of a file (such as a PDF,.doc etc), when a link is clicked. The default action will open the document in the either the same browser window, or in a new tab/window by using the usual target methods. HTML Links - The target Attribute. By default, the linked page will be displayed in the current browser window. To change this, you must specify another target for the link. The target attribute specifies where to open the linked document. The target attribute can have one of the following values: _self - Default. Opens the document in the same. When you click to download a particular file type (bltadwin.ru,.doc,.docx,.pdf), look at the bottom of your browser window, where you see the little down arrow next to the file name. Click on this down arrow, and you will see an option 'Always Open Files of This Type'. Click on that option, and that file type will always auto-open in future.

A special download attribute can be used inside of an tag that will tell the browser to download the file instead of navigating to it. The code below will tell the browser to prompt the user to save the file. The addition of the “download” tag will force a file download dialog box to appear when the link to the file is clicked. Store the pdf on Google drive and link to that: This is insecure (anyone with the link can access the file) and obviates the need for Canvas. Replace the pdf with a jpeg image. This degrades resolution and has poor accessibility (e.g., for vision impaired students) Use direct addressing instead of indirect addressing in the href. Browsers (Chrome and Safari) Try to download this html file when opened. It is only on that link that it tries to download it. Also note that internet explorer opens it without a problem. The one thing that I think is causing this may be wordpress or some plugin within wordpress but it seems unlikely since no wordpress is used in that page.
